Silk screening is a cloth printing technique that involves painting on a stencil silk screen frame. Silk screening is not typical of Africa. Indeed, we were surprised to learn that silk screening is a trade found in Burkina Faso. Each design requires a new silk screen frame; as such, the patterns are layered one by one. It is time consuming and requires extreme dexterity.
Madirou, which does silk screening, was created by Madi Kabré, a former manager at Biotex Africa. We have been working with Madi since the start of PagaBags. He provides us with our organic dyed linings. More recently we have been experimenting with silk screening designs on toiletry and home accessories. Faithful to our credo, our silk screened prints use only organic dyes.
